Designer Profile: Halston

One of the biggest names in American fashion launched in the 1960′s and still going strong today. The Halston brand is well known for its elegance, glamor, use of fabrics and innovation. Halston himself was always on the forefront. He was the first designer to travel with his collection to the show, designed the first hat ever featured in Harper’s Bazaar, was the first designer to ever turn windows and mannequins into pop art, and the first to ever have a namesake luxury boutique in a department store. Aside from these facts revealing so much about who Halston the man was, they tell how much the brand is a reflection of his forward thought and innovative spirit. The collection this fall is no different.

Black and White

They say in life nothing is black and white. Well that is not entirely true this season, at least according to the fashion gods. So much black and white came down the fall runways and what a beautiful sight it was! The contrast and the simplicity was so refreshing while still making a bold statement. Pair this look with a rich red or burgundy hue on your lips and you are instant glam! With all the color, prints, and embellishments this year I am feeling really attached to the sleekness and no nonsense of everything being just what it is… Black and White.

In the Navy

I am so happy to report that navy has made a strong come back this season. It is one of my favorite colors to pair with almost anything! Navy works as a neutral back to almost any bright, white or yes even black! We know the age old saying of not pairing black and navy together, but we don’t believe in that “rule!” The result? Navy and black is one of the chicest combinations. It adds an element of depth to your all black outfit that is subtle but noticeable all at the same time. I for one, am so excited to add even more navy to my wardrobe.

Poolside Manner

I will admit, I own more caftans then dresses. Crazy I know. But nothing says exotic vacation or elegant pool party better then a caftan, for this reason, as well as there are just so many gorgeous one’s, I am caftan crazy. Pairing a caftan over your swimsuit makes an instantly chic pool outfit. I love that you can lay out and then go to lunch and look instantly put together. On top of just a pool side look, add a little slip dress underneath and voila, now you are in a beautiful maxi dress. Here are some of my favs all courtesy of Net-A-Porter.com

Designer Profile: Theyskens’ Theory

In 2010 when Oliver Theyskens joined forces with Andrew Rosen (founder and CEO of Theory) they created a fashion darling known as Theyskens’ Theory. The line is clever; a perfect balance of edge with the classic Theory fit and feel. Theyskens gave the brand a cool vibe to appeal to a more contemporary woman, a younger woman, and/or the woman just looking for some stylish new pieces. Pre Theyskens, Theory had fallen into that category of great work basics. Your perfect fitting black pants, button downs, and shift dresses. Now Theyskens has really created a line for the  woman who still goes to the office but wants to her professional look to be stylish in order to go from the office to happy hour. Or she just wants those great fitting pieces not just for work but that can transition into stylish and on trend pieces for her nights and weekends.

Theyskens has captured that girl and she can’t wait to see what will come down his runway each season.

Let Them Eat Cake

The Palace at Versailles brings one word to mind, excess. Stage to many high fashion editorials and runway shows it is no surprise Chanel held their 2013 Resort fashion show in the palace gardens. Karl Lagerfeld is known to choose spaces that reflect the theme of his collections. This show was no different, it was the perfect scene for the show. The photographs from the event reflect this marriage of fashion and space as the collection seemed like a mere extension of the beautiful decor already in place. The result? A breathtaking show reflecting the opulence and excess of Versailles, with the elegance and sophistication of Chanel and a scene of Chanel show goers that added beautifully to the whole vibe.

I love looking at upcoming Resort collections while we are in spring/summer because there is usually some great tips for the fashion forward woman in us all who loves to see where fashion is headed. Always good to know where you are going!

My favorite shots from the show, good inspiration for some fun summer outfits!
