Put A Spring in Your Step!

I find it so hard to pull together outfits in between seasons. By the time it is early spring I am SO tired of my winter wardrobe that even though it’s still chilly I am more then ready to shove my winter ware to the back of the closet and pull out my light and airy spring pieces! However, this will just leave you cold and miserable so how best to transition from your winter wardrobe you are sick of and is probably too heavy for the warmer days and into fresher spring items that aren’t too light weight for those still chilly nights? I have 5 pieces for you that will help you freshen up your outfits and make you feel springy but still keep you covered for that balmy trying oh so hard to be spring day!

1. a leather jacket in a lighter weight (leather is all the rage this spring) or just in a lighter color that will instantly feel fresh and not winter!

2. A jumpsuit! They come in so many fun colors and prints this year, and its still covering your legs so not too summery, AND easy to throw on a jacket!

3. So sick of black leggings and dark denim? Instant spring feel with distressed skinny jeans or denim in a lighter wash.

4. Can’t even look at your knee high riding boots or black suede booties? A short boot like this distressed moto in light tan or many of the pastel booties out right now will do the trick!

5. A cool layering piece to throw over everything. Light and silky to relieve you of the chunky knit you might throw out the window. Layer over skinnies, jumpsuits, maxis, you name it!

Print Mania

This season is so print packed it can be hard to navigate. Flowers, animal, geometric, digital, abstract- we have seen it all! Not only is this season about a single printed statement piece, but we are seeing print from head to toe. Not for the faint of heart the matchy matchy look is a bold statement but can be done so the result is one chic outfit. BONUS-  all of these outfits can be dressed down for day or dressed up for a night out on the town!

Black, White & Coveted All Over

Nothing says sophistication, timelessness, and chic better then black and white. It is clean, sexy and to the point all at once. Designers have brought it back with a bang this spring season and not just in the old traditional ways but with fresh eyes, open hearts and soaring imaginations their black and white stories came full of life with unexpected mixtures and playful silhouettes. This is hands down my favorite runway series I have seen. From Marc Jacobs, to YSL, Balmain, Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton it was so hard to narrow down and choose what to feature. Every look one after the other had my head spinning trying to put this piece together. I eventually just had to choose a few highlights, however, if one afternoon you need some fashion inspiration, view the spring 2013 Paris runway shows of a fore mentioned designers and tell me that is not fashion candy!

She’s Got the Blues

I definitely have the blues this season! When shopping I have been attracted to all things blue. Electric, navy, cobalt, greyish blue, you name it and I MUST have. It is such a versatile color that looks gorgeous on blondes, brunettes, and red heads. AND works mixed with black, denim, white and so many other playful colors coming out this spring. Lucky for me and all you other blues gals it is one of the hottest colors this season in pretty much every shade. Its been spotted down the runways, in Neiman’s trend report, and in tons of our fav fashion mags. Its a great color to pair back with all the prints out there and perfect to put back to those colored bottoms. A few of the blue stunners out there:

Printy Please

Resort and spring collections across the board in both clothing and accessories are packed with prints. So get your game face on ladies because this season is going to take you outside your comfort zone! Prints can be done very tastefully and anyone can pull them off with a couple tips. For those of us solid gals, pick one part of your outfit to do a print. Be it your shoes, pants, top, scarf, or head band- any print will do- animal, florals, polkadots, stripes- they are available this year! For those of us a little braver and more colorful try your top and bottoms, there are so many cute sets out there this year! Or for some of us in the middle do a dress either short or maxi in a full print, there are some great options from DVF, Hale Bob, and Alice & Olivia.

No matter what your print comfort level there is something out there for everyone this season, so start 2013 on a fresh, bold and confident note!

Baby It’s Cold Outside

Nothing says winter like fur! Whether its real or faux you can get the same great look. In seasons past and present we have seen full fur vests and fur trimmed jackets, but this year fur collars are trending overseas and starting to creep their way to the US. They look great with a sweater, on top of a blazer, or added to your jacket. A fun accessory to spice up your winter wardrobe and keep you warm at the same time! See below for some key ways to wear this emerging trend:

Designer Profile: Halston

One of the biggest names in American fashion launched in the 1960′s and still going strong today. The Halston brand is well known for its elegance, glamor, use of fabrics and innovation. Halston himself was always on the forefront. He was the first designer to travel with his collection to the show, designed the first hat ever featured in Harper’s Bazaar, was the first designer to ever turn windows and mannequins into pop art, and the first to ever have a namesake luxury boutique in a department store. Aside from these facts revealing so much about who Halston the man was, they tell how much the brand is a reflection of his forward thought and innovative spirit. The collection this fall is no different.

Black and White

They say in life nothing is black and white. Well that is not entirely true this season, at least according to the fashion gods. So much black and white came down the fall runways and what a beautiful sight it was! The contrast and the simplicity was so refreshing while still making a bold statement. Pair this look with a rich red or burgundy hue on your lips and you are instant glam! With all the color, prints, and embellishments this year I am feeling really attached to the sleekness and no nonsense of everything being just what it is… Black and White.

Let Them Eat Cake

The Palace at Versailles brings one word to mind, excess. Stage to many high fashion editorials and runway shows it is no surprise Chanel held their 2013 Resort fashion show in the palace gardens. Karl Lagerfeld is known to choose spaces that reflect the theme of his collections. This show was no different, it was the perfect scene for the show. The photographs from the event reflect this marriage of fashion and space as the collection seemed like a mere extension of the beautiful decor already in place. The result? A breathtaking show reflecting the opulence and excess of Versailles, with the elegance and sophistication of Chanel and a scene of Chanel show goers that added beautifully to the whole vibe.

I love looking at upcoming Resort collections while we are in spring/summer because there is usually some great tips for the fashion forward woman in us all who loves to see where fashion is headed. Always good to know where you are going!

My favorite shots from the show, good inspiration for some fun summer outfits!
