What to Wear?

Well girls, wedding season is upon us and you know what that means: showers, bachelorette parties, luncheons, engagement parties, and the multiple “big days” you will be attending. The underlying issue, the eternal question, the panic moment, WHAT TO WEAR? Have no fear we have a guide to get you through your ENTIRE wedding season with a breeze and many a style compliments heading your way.

A few tips before you peruse our carefully cultivated wedding season picks:

1. The main dictator of what to wear to a wedding is what time of day the ceremony is taking place and where’s the venue. That will tell you everything about the level of formality.

2. Always, always dress up and dress nice, even if the wedding is not exceptionally formal it shows respect to the bride and groom on their important day.

3. You can never go wrong with romantic and feminine, lace is a great go to!

4. It’s totally fine to wear black but try navy! Navy looks great on everyone and is a great alternative if you still feel black should not be worn to a wedding.

Let Them Eat Cake

The Palace at Versailles brings one word to mind, excess. Stage to many high fashion editorials and runway shows it is no surprise Chanel held their 2013 Resort fashion show in the palace gardens. Karl Lagerfeld is known to choose spaces that reflect the theme of his collections. This show was no different, it was the perfect scene for the show. The photographs from the event reflect this marriage of fashion and space as the collection seemed like a mere extension of the beautiful decor already in place. The result? A breathtaking show reflecting the opulence and excess of Versailles, with the elegance and sophistication of Chanel and a scene of Chanel show goers that added beautifully to the whole vibe.

I love looking at upcoming Resort collections while we are in spring/summer because there is usually some great tips for the fashion forward woman in us all who loves to see where fashion is headed. Always good to know where you are going!

My favorite shots from the show, good inspiration for some fun summer outfits!

To The Max

Just arrived in Beirut, Lebanon and this city is all about fashion and glamour! It’s packed with amazing restaurants, nightly hotspots, fabulous shops, and even more fabulously dressed women. The women in Beirut are effortlessly chic and always impeccably dressed. My motto for Beirut, it’s culture, it’s people is: “To The Max” everything here is done to the 9′s. No detail in an outfit, a restaurant, or a club is left undone. This theme leaves me with maxi skirts on the brain. They are showing up in gorgeous colors, prints and fabrics this season. They are the perfect piece to create that effortlessly chic look whether you’re in a bustling city, by the beach, or lunching with friends.

Wearing a maxi skirt and a silk blouse I am getting ready to hit the boutiques and see where this fashion city is headed. I am so looking forward to being reinvigorated by the energetic and creative pulse that is Beirut. When I must leave this city it’s always fashionably inspired and re-energized, so stay tuned, posts to follow are sure to be enlightened, “To the Max.”

Show Stopper

Award season is in full swing and overall I wasn’t blow away by the Golden Globe styles (except Charlize Theron who looked stunning in Dior). However, come the SAG awards on Sunday I was much more inspired. 4 totally different looks in particular really captured my attention. They were perfectly put together, perfect for the woman wearing it, and all around award winning!

Rose Byrne in Elie Saab: absolutely show stopping

Emily Blunt in Oscar De La Renta: perfect fit and perfect color for her

Ashlee Simpson in Jenny Packham: perfect hair, accessories and make-up with this dress

Giuliana Rancic in Basil Soda: simply fabulous

Mirror Mirror On the Wall

Who’s the fairest of them all??? Well we found them for you! A gorgeous mirror is a great way to add some pizazz to your closet. Not only are mirrors beautiful decorating pieces, they are useful too (recommendation- always do a once over of your outfit before you leave your house), and they make any space seem bigger and lighter. Of course we would all like the biggest possible closet, so a mirror is a great and easy way to get that effect!

Wine Blending Made Easy????

Probably the best kept secret about Sacramento is that there are flourishing vineyards basically in your backyard.  Many people are surprised to find out that all along the Delta are amazing wineries.  The biggest of them all is Bogle Winery (www.boglewinery.com) however there are many that line the delta that are much smaller.  My favorite place to take out of town guests is The Old Sugar Mill (www.oldsugarmill.com).  Located in Clarksburg County, The Old Sugar Mill is just that – an old sugar mill converted into 6 tasting rooms for the little guys around here.   I am a member of the Heringer Estates Wine Club (www.heringerestates.com) and had the pleasure of attending their first ever Eco Cask Wine Blending Event at The Old Sugar Mill.

As a Closetnista, a wine blending party is right up my ally.  It was important that my outfit matched the event and so I chose to wear a silk black spaghetti strap maxi dress by Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent paired with an ivory scarf that was beaded on the trim.  I added a long chain necklace that was two toned and simple Tory Burch black sandals.  Simple but classy and yet still understated…just like the wine community!

An Eco Cask is their jug of table wine that holds 2.5 bottles of wine.  About 60 of us gathered to help decide what their next Eco Cask wine would be.   We started out with 3 wines – 09′Syrah, 09′ Cabernet Franc, and the 09′ Petite Verdot.  First we had to each taste and write a description for ourselves what each one was like.  I was literally trying to think of all the buzz wine words you use but then you realize that everyone’s palate is different.  It’s amazing how different our opinions were of each wine.

As a table, we came up with 3 blends.  We agreed on different percentages of each wine for each blend.  Then we picked our favorite and adjusted those percentages to come up with 3 more blends.  By the end there were 7 tables each with 6 different blends.  Each table collectively agreed on one blend to send to the other tables for tasting.  Ours was 20% Syrah, 20% Cabernet Franc and 60% Petite Verdot.  It was our first blend and our favorite one of the 6.

Now, you would think this would be super easy.  But as the night went on, your palate gets confused and what you once thought tasted amazing was now too spicy or vice versa.  My brain could not think of any more adjectives to keep all the wines separated in my head.  But to be honest, they all tasted pretty good so I wasn’t too particular which one would win.

At the end, we all voted on the best of each table.  Our table came in 2nd place and surprisingly none of us voted for ours in the finale.  That just shows you how hard it is to recognize all the different blends.  It was such a great event and I look forward to next years.  Maybe in a years time, I will have developed my palate so that I can keep all the wines separated and distinct in my head!

Neiman Marcus Rachel Zoe Launch Party

Although I already blogged about the Rachel Zoe Fall Collection I felt it would be remiss not to share my pictures and experience from the launch party.  Held last night at Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills, it was a fashion show and champagne extravaganza! Rachel Zoe and Ken Downing spoke about the looks as they came down the runway and she shared her design inspirations. It was great to see her so passionate about her designs and because she is a stylist we got the added bonus of her styling tips for each piece. I felt inspired by the buzz and especially the post show energy as the shopping party began and her collection was bought up left and right! It made me so excited for fall and for my new Rachel Zoe black jumpsuit (shown in the last 2 pictures) can’t wait to wear it!!!
