Black and White

They say in life nothing is black and white. Well that is not entirely true this season, at least according to the fashion gods. So much black and white came down the fall runways and what a beautiful sight it was! The contrast and the simplicity was so refreshing while still making a bold statement. Pair this look with a rich red or burgundy hue on your lips and you are instant glam! With all the color, prints, and embellishments this year I am feeling really attached to the sleekness and no nonsense of everything being just what it is… Black and White.

Style Guide: The Girly Girl

It’s so fun to be a girl and just play dress up! This style guide is all about fun, flirty and feminine. Florals, lace, pleats, and silks; all those beautiful fabrics and colors that scream girly.  When going for this look play up your figure and don’t be afraid to show off your feminine physique! Pair these flirty dresses with a beautiful pump, strappy sandal, or a pretty ballet flat.

In Vogue

As soon as I discovered these photos I just about fell off my chair. This is hands down one of the best editorials I have EVER seen. So romantic, exotic, and just drop dead GORGEOUS! And the wardrobe….there are no words.

I hope they inspire you just as much.

Designer Profile: Tom Ford

One can not speak of high fashion without the mention of Tom Ford. His vision and creativity have transformed houses like Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent not only with his creativity but with his innate business intuition. In two short years, 1994-1996, as Creative Director for Gucci, sales increased by 90%. A huge feat under any circumstances but larger then life considering they were almost bankrupt. When Ford left Gucci Group in 2004 they were valued at 10 billion! Creative without business leaves one with ideas and sketches and business without creative is not fashion at all! It takes the marriage of both to have a fashion house with staying power, and Tom Ford is a master.

What is even more intriguing is Tom Ford’s career since leaving Gucci. The launch in 2005 of his own label, his namesake, Tom Ford. Each season I am so drawn to his ad campaigns and I look forward to them. They are provocative, edgy, emotional, and most importantly different, while somehow maintaining the essence of Tom Ford. You can always spot a Tom Ford ad in a glance. Each season they take on a larger then life role in the media because they are so unexpected and unconventional. Tom Ford is a man with a unique vision who has the courage to stand by it. He always goes with his intuition, and that I believe, is what has made him so successful turning his creativity into business.

One can gain tons of insight through these very ad campaigns, here are a few of my favorites over the years.

A Fashionable Guide to Thanksgiving

I am thankful that…

fur is still in, so you can be cozy on Thanksgiving and look fab at the same time,

that bold bright colors are big this year, to liven up those dreary winter days,

that ponchos and capes can be found at all stores so EAT UP,

that big red lips are all the rage, so dive into that delicious cherry pie! It matches your lipstick after all,

that native prints are on tons of blouses and dresses so it’s fashionable to dress the part when recreating the first thanksgiving,

that there are gorgeous feathers to clip into your hair in commemoration of Turkey Day,

that Green Bay is playing on Thanksgiving Day because let’s face it, true green is such a hot color and looks good on almost everyone,

that turkey’s don’t fall into the animal print category so it’s not a faux pas to wear my leopard blouse,

that the chucky heel is back, makes it easier not to have to cook in stilettos,

and lastly I am thankful that someone else is cooking Thanksgiving dinner, we do closets not kitchens.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Fashion Banking 101

Trends come and go and while it is fun to splurge on those items each season, it is important to have a good base to start. A great bag and a classic pair of black pumps are must haves and if you invest in these items they will last you for years to come, season in and season out. There are ways to incorporate the trends without breaking the bank and you are better off to put your money into a classic bag and shoe as your “investment” pieces. These will hold their value, give you the most return on your money, and stand the true test of fashion time. Scarves and jewelry you can find great deals on and are a great way to incorporate the prints, colors, and textures of a season. Add these accessories to any outfit, with your great bag and shoes, and you are good to go!

P.S Vogue is another great investment :)

Your Fall Face

Now that your closet is full of your fall must haves: statement fur, bright colors, a chunky heel, cord bell bottoms, anything in bordeaux and anything in leather, don’t forget about your most important asset…your face! Rich, bold hues translated from ready to wear straight to the makeup counters. The word is Glam. Rich lip sticks, smokey lids with bright colors, and a bold nail polish will perfectly finish off your fall outfits. Here are my favorite looks courtesy of www.neimanmarcus.com
