Baby It’s Cold Outside

Nothing says winter like fur! Whether its real or faux you can get the same great look. In seasons past and present we have seen full fur vests and fur trimmed jackets, but this year fur collars are trending overseas and starting to creep their way to the US. They look great with a sweater, on top of a blazer, or added to your jacket. A fun accessory to spice up your winter wardrobe and keep you warm at the same time! See below for some key ways to wear this emerging trend:

A Fashionable Guide to Thanksgiving

I am thankful that…

fur is still in, so you can be cozy on Thanksgiving and look fab at the same time,

that bold bright colors are big this year, to liven up those dreary winter days,

that ponchos and capes can be found at all stores so EAT UP,

that big red lips are all the rage, so dive into that delicious cherry pie! It matches your lipstick after all,

that native prints are on tons of blouses and dresses so it’s fashionable to dress the part when recreating the first thanksgiving,

that there are gorgeous feathers to clip into your hair in commemoration of Turkey Day,

that Green Bay is playing on Thanksgiving Day because let’s face it, true green is such a hot color and looks good on almost everyone,

that turkey’s don’t fall into the animal print category so it’s not a faux pas to wear my leopard blouse,

that the chucky heel is back, makes it easier not to have to cook in stilettos,

and lastly I am thankful that someone else is cooking Thanksgiving dinner, we do closets not kitchens.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Your Fall Face

Now that your closet is full of your fall must haves: statement fur, bright colors, a chunky heel, cord bell bottoms, anything in bordeaux and anything in leather, don’t forget about your most important asset…your face! Rich, bold hues translated from ready to wear straight to the makeup counters. The word is Glam. Rich lip sticks, smokey lids with bright colors, and a bold nail polish will perfectly finish off your fall outfits. Here are my favorite looks courtesy of www.neimanmarcus.com

What Goes Around, Comes Around

Hello 1970! The extremes of that decade are back and better then ever. Bell bottoms, bright colors, jumpsuits, maxi dresses, prints, fur, pant suits, sky high platforms, ponchos, and great trousers! It started with a small splash during fashion week-fall 2010 (see Phillip Lim Fall 2010 below), which carried into spring and summer 2011 and now the 70′s inspired looks for fall 2011 we saw during fashion week are filling the store floors. Here are some of my favs from the runway:

Mix and Match Fall Separates

One of the reasons I LOVE fall/winter is all the textures and layers that you can add into your outfits. Especially because this year separates are back, there are so many opportunities to mix in these fun fabrics! Last year started the incorporation of leather, lace and fur but this year it has really taken off. The femininity and elegance of lace, toughened up with the rocker, downtown city girl in leather and the boho luxuriousness of fur is one of my favorite looks! Add in a chunky knit, silk blouse and a corduroy bell bottom pant and your closet is set! These are outfits I can’t wait to put together!!!

This look from Theory is the perfect example of combining these textures. The Black leather pant, the fox fur coat, and a mohair sweater- a long sleeved lace top would also look to DIE under this coat!

Alexander McQueen’s plaid statement jacket with a removable vest, paired with his tuxedo shirt and Victoria Beckham’s rocker zipper jean shows the art of layering.

Elizabeth and James did an AMAZING fur poncho coat, with a stretch leather pant and a rich rust colored silk top called the “Paris Popover” love the color and fabric combination!

Theory from head to toe featuring 3 major fall trends: the bell bottom corduroy, the knit sweater and the fur vest. GREAT look, effortless style!
